The Center for Biosecurity’s meeting Preserving National Security: The Growing Role of the Life Sciences (March 3, 2011, Washington, DC) focused on the expanding and evolving connections between advances in the life sciences and U.S. national security. Addressing the increasingly important and transformative role that the life sciences will play in the 21st century, distinguished speakers and panelists explored topics ranging from U.S. government programs and priorities in the life sciences and biosecurity, to U.S. competitiveness in the global life science market, to the need for scientists to learn how to engage the public in meaningful discussion. This summary provides a brief synopsis of panel discussions and individual presentations.
