Terms of Use

Access, Subscription, and Privacy: Clinicians' Biosecurity News (hereafter referred to as "CBN") is a bi-weekly update that provides timely information on issues relevant to clinical biosecurity and health security. At times of crisis or when matters of particular concern to clinicians interested in biosecurity are occurring, CBN may be published more frequently. 

Use and Subscription: CBN reports are available at no charge and can be read on the CBN website or delivered by email through free subscription.By subscribing to CBN or using the CBN Web page, you agree to the following terms of use, which constitute an agreement between cbn@jhu.edu and you. Also, subscription to CBN serves as permission to deliver this publication to an email address supplied by the subscriber.

Subscription: Subscription, which requires submission of your name and email address, is voluntary. We request additional demographic information to help us tailor the content of the newsletter more precisely and to allow us to track and characterize our subscriber base. Submission of demographic information is voluntary. We are committed to maintaining the privacy of our subscribers and will not share, rent, or sell our subscriber list or any information from that list to outside entities. Please review our privacy policy, below.

Termination: The JHSPH Center for Health Security reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate a subscriber’s access to CBN. A subscriber may terminate registration at any time by unsubscribing.

Acceptance of Terms: A user’s failure to “unsubscribe” once registration is complete and a subscription is activated signals acceptance in full of the newsletter’s Terms of Use.

Indemnity: A subscriber agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless JHSPH Center for Health Security, its managers, operators, contributors, service providers, and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents, from and against any claims, actions or demands, including without limitation reasonable legal and accounting fees, resulting from, or alleged to result from, a subscriber's use of CBN or breach of the Terms of Use. 

Jurisdiction: This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Maryland without regard to its conflict of laws rules. A subscriber expressly agrees that exclusive jurisdiction for any claim or dispute with CBN or its managers, operators, contributors, or service providers, resides in the courts of Maryland, and further consent and agree to personal jurisdiction by the state and federal courts sitting in the State of Maryland in connection with any such dispute.

Legality of Use: CBN makes no claims that its contents may be lawfully viewed or downloaded outside of the United States. Access to CBN on the Center's website may not be legal by certain persons or in certain countries. If a user accesses the CBN website from outside of the United States, they do so at their own risk and are responsible for compliance with the laws of their jurisdiction. These Terms of Use are governed by the internal substantive laws of Maryland without respect to its conflict of laws principles. Jurisdiction of any claims arising under these Terms of Use will lie exclusively with the state or federal courts within Maryland . If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be invalid by any court having competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision will not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these Terms of Use, which will remain in full force and effect. No waiver of any provision of these Terms of Use will be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such provision or any other provision. Except as expressly provided in another statement by JHSPH Center for Health Security on its website, these Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between a subscriber and JHSPH Center for Health Security with respect to the use of CBN email service. No changes to these Terms of Use may be made except by a revised posting on this website.

Information Collection and Use: Subscription to CBN will require submission of an email address; registration entails voluntary submission of minimal demographic information. Information submitted for subscription to CBN will be used by JHSPH Center for Health Security solely for the purpose of tailoring content to readership and monitoring interest in this publication. JHSPH Center for Health Security will not collect other user data, will not monitor use of CBN online, and will not share, rent, or sell user data.

Disclaimer, Denial of Warranty, Limitation of Liability: CBN consists of a free email service that is provided as information for individuals who are interested in health security issues. The sole purpose of CBN is to provide information and/or opinions relevant to biosecurity and health security and is intended for research and educational purposes only.

As a condition of use, subscribers also understand that information herein may be inaccurate, incorrect or improper. While JHSPH Center for Health Security makes every effort to ensure that information distributed through CBN is timely and accurate, information may change rapidly or prove controversial; therefore, JHSPH Center for Health Security does not warrant the accuracy of material provided via CBN and will not be held liable for errors, omissions, or inaccuracies.

Subscribers agree to use their own judgment and to independently investigate any information obtained from CBN. Information provided herein is not intended to be the sole source of information on any topic, subject, condition, treatment, or event, and any application or use of materials provided through CBN shall be at the sole risk of the user and based upon the subscriber's independent and independently exercised judgment.

Information accessed through CBN is provided "as is" and without warranty, expressed or implied. Subscribers are hereby warned that the owners, operators and sponsors disclaim all warranties expressed or implied, including any warranty of merchantability or warranty of fitness for a particular purpose which may apply or be claimed to apply to any use of CBN, or any information made available through it. The staff of the JHSPH Center for Health Security and/or JHSPH cannot and do not guarantee or warrant that files available for downloading from the CBN will be free of infection from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, or other code that may manifest contaminating or destructive properties.

Mention of specific products or drugs in CBN does not constitute endorsement by the staff of JHSPH Center for Health Security. Regarding specific products or drugs, physicians and other health care providers are advised to consult their normal resources before prescribing to their patients.

Trademarks and Service Marks: CBN is a service mark of JHSPH Center for Health Security on behalf of JHSPH Center for Health Security. Its contents are provided by JHSPH Center for Health Security  to their users in good faith. As the principal purpose of CBN is for non-profit educational use, some or all of the contents have been provided pursuant to the doctrine of "Fair Use" as that term is defined in United States copyright law. Users of the CBN must also conform to the requirements of "Fair Use." Unauthorized use may violate copyright, trademark, service mark, or other laws. Users may not reproduce, modify, or sell CBN contents without express permission of JHSPH Center for Health Security.
